Our History

A hint of humor here... a bit of homespun wisdom there...some heartfelt inspiration... even a little attitude now and then. Whatever the situation, location, or even vocation, Lorna has just the sign for it.

How it All Began

As a young mother blessed with an artistic nature, as well as 3 small children, Lorna found an outlet for her creativity in stenciling. It wasn't long before she was designing pictures and type fonts, creating and cutting the original stencils by hand from plastic Mylar.

An appreciative audience of friends and acquaintances encouraged Lorna to show her work at local festivals and craft shows in her hometown of Dayton, Ohio. Impressed by the quality and craftsmanship of the signs, a visiting sales representative for the gift and craft industry offered Lorna the opportunity to share her talent with a much wider audience of wholesalers and retail stores.

Lorna's rustic signs were an instant hit. As orders quickly piled up, Lorna recruited her husband Ken and put him to work buying wood, painting board backgrounds, and framing signs. And in 1996, Ken, a businessman by trade, turned in his tie for an old pair of blue jeans and weathered work gloves. Jones' Rustic Sign Company went full-time, even hiring employees to work with them out of their cozy basement studio.

Today, Jones' Rustic Sign Company occupies a 13,000 square foot workshop just south of Dayton Ohio. Lorna still designs and creates new signs for her ever-growing customer base. In addition to her creative efforts, she personally oversees a staff of 30 talented artists and skilled craftsmen.

Lorna, usually never at a loss for words, can only smile at the thought of her good fortune and good customers.
